Add a watermark to PDF pages in words or with a logo
A watermark marks a document's status or owner without hiding what is on the page: DRAFT across a proposal, CONFIDENTIAL on a report, your logo on every page of a price list. It is drawn over the content at the opacity you set, so the page underneath can stay readable.
The mark is written into the page content, not added as a comment or a layer that a viewer can switch off, so it appears in every PDF app and on paper.

Add text to PDF pages as a diagonal mark: type any words, pick a Text Color and set a Font Size from 12 to 200.

Add image watermark to PDF pages with a PNG or JPG, such as a logo, kept upright and resized to fit within half the width and half the height of the page.

Center puts the mark in the middle of the page, and the four corner options move it close to the corner you pick.

Many files, one mark
Select several PDFs and each gets the same watermark. Page ranges are refused for a batch, since page 3 means something different in every file.

To lay one PDF over another, such as a letterhead, use Overlay PDF.
What happens when the watermark is added
Each page of your PDF is copied into a new document, and the mark is drawn onto the pages you listed. An image is stored in the file once and reused on every marked page, so marking a hundred pages adds the picture only once.
Pages to Watermark takes single numbers and ranges separated by commas. Numbers past the last page and anything that isn't a page number are skipped, so the success message, which counts the marked pages, is worth a glance.
Only the pages are copied, so bookmarks and the title and author stored in the original stay behind. The watermarked copy is named after your file, and several files come back together in a ZIP named watermarked-pdfs with the number of files.

It is set in a standard Latin font that covers English and Western European letters. Cyrillic, Greek, Chinese, Arabic and other scripts can't be drawn, and the tool reports an error; save the words as a PNG image and use Image Watermark instead.
Yes. When you add image to PDF pages as a logo, use a PNG with transparency and only the logo shows on the page. A JPG always brings its rectangular background with it.
Long text at a large Font Size can reach past the edge of the page, especially from a corner. Lower the Font Size, shorten the text or choose Center.
Move the Opacity slider: lower values let more of the page show through, and 100% makes the mark solid. Text and image watermarks each have a slider of their own.
Unlock it first: add a locked file and the tool points you to Remove Password Protection. If the marked copy needs a password again, run it through Protect PDF afterwards.
Yes, in two runs. Mark the first set of pages, then open the downloaded file and mark the other pages with a different text or image. The first mark stays in place, since each run adds to the pages it is given.
Yes, in the same browser: the watermark text, the choice between text and image, the position and the text opacity are kept for your next visit. The image itself and its opacity are not, so pick the image again.
No. Text on the page can still be selected and copied: a watermark marks a document but doesn't lock it. To limit copying, use Protect PDF.
